The 8th Free Meeting of English Youth Community (E-youC) Makassar 2025–2026

Fluency in Focus: Structured 1-Minute Speaking Practice.

Speaking confidently in English is not something that happens overnight. it takes practice, consistency, and the courage to speak. With this spirit, the English Youth Community Makassar organized its 8th Free Meeting on Saturday, February 21, 2026, through Google Meet, inviting participants to improve their speaking skills in a supportive and enjoyable environment.

The session was facilitated by Nur Atisya Ramadani, a member of the Ministry of Learning and Teaching. Carrying the theme "Fluency in Focus: Structured 1-Minute Speaking Practice," the meeting encouraged participants to organize their thoughts and express them clearly within one minute. Rather than aiming for perfect English, the focus was on building confidence and speaking more naturally.

To create a comfortable atmosphere, the meeting began with a light ice-breaking activity that encouraged participants to introduce themselves and interact with one another. This simple activity helped everyone feel more relaxed before moving into the speaking exercises.
During the main session, participants learned practical techniques for structuring short responses.

The speaker explained how to organize ideas with a clear beginning, middle, and ending while maintaining a smooth flow of speech. Several examples were demonstrated before participants were invited to practice on their own using different everyday topics.

The most exciting part of the meeting was the one-minute speaking challenge. Each participant was given an opportunity to speak on a random topic while receiving encouragement from the speaker and fellow participants. Although some participants were nervous at first, the positive atmosphere helped them become more confident with every attempt.

To make the session even more engaging, short games and interactive activities were included between the practice sessions. These activities gave participants a chance to refresh their minds while continuing to use English in a fun and meaningful way. The balance between learning and interaction kept the meeting lively from beginning to end.

By the end of the session, many participants shared that the activity helped them realize they were capable of speaking more than they had expected. They appreciated the opportunity to practice without feeling pressured and found the one-minute challenge to be an effective way to improve fluency and organize ideas quickly.

Through activities like this, the English Youth Community continues to provide a learning space where participants can develop their English skills, support one another, and grow together.

English Youth Community hopes that each Free Meeting inspires more learners to practice consistently and enjoy the journey of learning English.

The 7th Free Meeting of English Youth Community (E-youC) Makassar 2025–2026

Verb Awareness in Spoken English.
English Youth Community (E-youC) Makassar continued its series of learning activities by holding the 7th Free Meeting on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, through Google Meet. Open to everyone who wanted to improve their English, the session provided a welcoming space where participants could learn, interact, and practice together in a supportive online environment.

The meeting was presented by Alda Hikmawati, a member of the Ministry of Learning and Teaching. She introduced the topic "Verb Awareness in Spoken English," which focused on helping participants become more aware of how verbs are naturally used in everyday conversations. Instead of memorizing grammar rules, the session encouraged participants to understand how verbs function in real-life communication.

To make the learning process more enjoyable, the meeting started with a simple ice-breaking activity that encouraged participants to interact with one another. The friendly atmosphere helped everyone feel more relaxed before moving on to the main discussion. Throughout the session, participants were invited to answer questions, share their opinions, and practice using different verbs in common speaking situations.

Rather than relying on a lecture-style presentation, the speaker involved participants through short speaking exercises and interactive discussions. Several examples of daily conversations were explored together, allowing participants to identify the appropriate verbs and understand how a small change in verb choice can affect the meaning of a sentence. This practical approach made the material easier to follow and more relevant to everyday English.

To keep the energy high, participants also joined a few language games related to the topic. These activities created a fun learning atmosphere while giving everyone the opportunity to practice what they had learned. Many participants became more active as the session went on, and even those who were initially quiet gradually joined the discussions with greater confidence.

At the end of the meeting, participants shared that the session helped them realize how important verb choice is in spoken English. They appreciated the simple explanations, practical examples, and supportive environment that encouraged them to participate without worrying about making mistakes.

The 7th Free Meeting once again demonstrated the English Youth Community's commitment to making English learning accessible, engaging, and enjoyable. Through regular free meetings, the community hopes to inspire more learners to develop their speaking skills and build confidence in using English in daily life.

English Youth Community looks forward to welcoming everyone to the next Free Meeting with more interesting topics and meaningful learning experiences.

Crack the TOEFL Reading Section: Effective Tips and Strategies.

English Youth Community (E-youC) Makassar successfully conducted its 4th Intensive Meeting for the 2025–2026 period on Saturday, February 7, 2026, through Google Meet. The online session was exclusively attended by E-YouC agents who were eager to strengthen their academic English skills, particularly in preparing for the TOEFL Reading section.

This intensive meeting featured Dewi Rahayu, S.Pd., Advisor of English Youth Community, who shared practical strategies for approaching TOEFL Reading questions more effectively. Rather than simply explaining the theory behind the test, she focused on helping participants understand common question types, identify key information in reading passages, and manage their time wisely during the exam.

The discussion encouraged participants to think critically while reading. Throughout the session, the speaker demonstrated several techniques for locating important details, recognizing main ideas, and avoiding common mistakes that many test takers make. The explanations were accompanied by examples, allowing participants to follow each strategy more easily.

Although the meeting was held online, the atmosphere remained active and engaging. Participants responded to questions, shared their own experiences with TOEFL practice, and exchanged ideas about the challenges they often face during the reading section.

To keep everyone focused and energized, the session also included short interactive activities and quizzes related to the material. These activities created a more enjoyable learning experience and encouraged participants to stay involved until the end of the meeting.

Many participants appreciated the practical approach used throughout the discussion. One of them shared that they had previously found the TOEFL Reading section overwhelming because of the long passages and limited time. After joining the meeting, they gained a better understanding of how to approach each passage more efficiently and felt more confident about practicing independently.

The 4th Intensive Meeting reflected English Youth Community's commitment to supporting its agents through continuous learning opportunities. By providing relevant topics and interactive discussions, the community hopes to help its members improve both their academic abilities and their confidence in using English.

English Youth Community looks forward to organizing more intensive meetings that inspire learning, encourage collaboration, and support every member's personal and academic development.

Intensive Meeting of English Youth Community (E-YouC) Makassar 2025–2026

English Youth Community (E-YouC) Makassar held its Intensive Meeting for the 2025–2026 period on Sunday, 7 December 2025, gathering enthusiastic members at Tempat Duduk Cafe, Jl. Yusuf Bauty, Gowa. Unlike a usual classroom setting, the meeting carried a relaxed indoor cafĂ© atmosphere, allowing participants to learn while feeling comfortable, open, and connected.

Before entering the main discussion, the moderator, A. Nailah Fitri Amalia, opened the session with a light introduction and invited participants to share their expectations. To make the room feel more alive, the agents facilitated a short interactive game that quickly helped everyone loosen up. The activity was simple but effective participants laughed, moved around, and immediately felt more engaged. This warm-up helped set a positive tone and prevented the session from feeling too formal or monotonous.

After the opening activities, the speaker, Andi Dwi Putra Ramadhan, S.Pd., began presenting the material “Hook Your Audience: Powerful Class Openings.” Instead of focusing on complex theories, he brought clear examples, classroom situations, and practical tips that participants could directly apply. He highlighted key elements such as tone, presence, clarity, confidence, and emotional connection showing how these small components can create a strong first impression in any teaching or speaking context.

As the material progressed, the atmosphere became even more lively. The speaker encouraged participants to try short opening lines, practice gestures, and experiment with different speaking styles. Some attempts felt funny, some unexpectedly good, and some still shy but that was exactly the point. Everyone was encouraged to try without fear of judgment. The room stayed energetic, especially because the earlier game had helped break the initial stiffness.

After the main session, participants were divided into small groups for practice. Each group was accompanied by a formatur who guided them in creating their own class-opening versions. The agents also slipped in another short game during this part to keep the mood fun and prevent fatigue. The blend of learning and play made the practice segment feel natural and enjoyable. Participants who were initially nervous gradually became more active and talkative.

The purpose of this Intensive Meeting went beyond learning techniques it aimed to build confidence and help participants understand that impactful class openings come from consistent practice. The English Youth Community believes that a supportive environment helps both learners and formaturs grow side by side. For the formaturs themselves, the session was also a chance to try new methods, observe participant reactions, and strengthen their facilitation skills.

At the end of the meeting, one participant shared that they usually struggled when opening a presentation, often unsure how to begin. But after experiencing the interactive activities, practice sessions, and supportive atmosphere, they felt more confident and had a clearer sense of what makes an opening engaging. They noted that the games helped them relax and enjoy the learning process instead of worrying about making mistakes.

The enthusiastic response from participants signals a strong start for the 2025–2026 period. English Youth Community hopes that every meeting both free and intensive continues to offer warm, open, and meaningful learning spaces for everyone involved.

English Youth Community (E-YouC) Makassar Holds its First Free Meeting for the 2025-2026 Period

The English Youth Community Makassar opened its first Free Meeting of the 2025–2026 period on Sunday, 23 November 2025, bringing together a lively group of young learners at the Masjid Agung courtyard in the late afternoon. The meeting carried a casual, outdoor atmosphere that made the whole session feel more like a friendly gathering than a formal class  which was exactly what the community intended.

The event started with a short warm-up game to help participants focus and loosen up. It didn’t take long before everyone was laughing, exchanging quick reactions, and slowly getting comfortable with one another. The game was simple, but it did its job: breaking the silence and easing the nerves of those who were still unsure about speaking English in front of others.

After that, the formatur began introducing the day’s topic: Basic Conversation Practice. Instead of diving into heavy explanations, the formatur kept things light and straightforward, examples, quick phrases, and expressions that people actually use when meeting someone for the first time. Greetings, introductions, asking simple questions, giving short opinions, and other everyday essentials were presented in a way that made participants feel, “Oh, I can actually try this.”

Once the material ended, the group moved into a more interactive part of the session. Participants were split into small circles, each guided by a formatur who encouraged them to talk, ask questions, and respond naturally. Mistakes weren’t treated as problems, just part of the process. The small-group setup made the conversations flow more easily, especially for those who were usually shy about speaking English.

Beyond introducing basic conversation skills, the Free Meeting was designed to give participants a space where they could practice English without pressure. The English Youth Community hopes that by creating an environment that feels relaxed and open, learners will become more confident and willing to speak up. For the formaturs, the meeting also served as an opportunity to grow, experimenting with new teaching approaches, learning how to handle diverse levels of proficiency, and building genuine connections with participants. In short, the Free Meeting aims to support both sides: learners who want to improve, and formaturs who want to sharpen their facilitation skills.

One participant shared at the end of the meeting that they came in feeling nervous, unsure whether they would be able to speak at all. But as the activities went on, they found themselves participating more than they expected. They mentioned that the friendly atmosphere, along with the formaturs’ supportive guidance, helped them feel at ease. For them, the session made English feel less like a subject to memorize and more like something they could actually use.

The positive response from the participants shows a promising start for the English Youth Community Makassar in this new period. The community hopes to continue offering sessions that are not only educational but also warm, open, and genuinely enjoyable for everyone involved.
